Create a Google+ Page for your Blog

create a google+ page for your blog

Colleen from Mural Maker recently shared on Facebook this post from Measuring Flowers about Google Friend Connect going away for non-blogger blogs. Sure enough, starting March 1, 2012 GFC will be retired for non-blogger blogs.

I’m on Blogger, so this doesn’t exactly affect me… yet. But if GFC is being removed for non-blogger blogs, my blog could be next! Also, the reccomendation from Google is to create a Google+ page for your blog. Not a bad idea, no matter what platform you’re on.

So, I decided to see how hard it really is. Turns out,it took me less than 10 minutes!

1. First, log into your Google + account.

2. In the right hand column, find “create a Google + page” Click here.

Create a Google+ page

3. Pick your category. I was leaning towards “brand,” but ended up picking “Arts, Entertainment or Sports”. One of the sub-categories here is Blogs.

4. Enter your page name (blog name), blog URL, and category.

5. You’ll then be asked to pick 10 words that best describe this page, and to add a photo.

6. All that’s left is to share your new page with your followers! You can do this through Google+, by sharing it with your circles, and by adding a button or badge to your blog.

Once you’ve created your Google + page, share it in the comments below so we can add you to our circles! Here are mine:

Thank you for this great post & tutorial. I didn’t even know something like “Google+ Pages” existed.

    Have a great weekend! 🙂

  3. This is great, Carolina. Much easier reading than Google 😀 Thanks for the mention too!

How do I add a button or badge to my blog? Is it like GFC that it gives you the HTML code or I have to make my own?

Thank you for sharing this info!

    • Google+ will create a badge that you can put on your blog – anyone who clicks on it will be taken directly to your Google+ page. To make your badge:
      1. Go to your google+ page
      2. Click on “get started” underneath your logo in the left hand collumn
      3. Now, you’ll see several actions in the middle column. One is “connect your website”
      4. Under “connect your website” click “get the badge”
      5. This will take you to a new page where you can select the style. Pick from large or small, badge or icon.
      6. The code will be created down in the box below.
      7. Just grab that code to put in your blog. (Highlight it and press Ctrl C)

How to add the code to your blogger blog:
      1. Go to the “design” page of your blog
      2. Decide where you want to put your badge, and click “add a widget”
      3. In your widget menu, choose the “HTML Code” option
      4. In the box, paste the code you grabbed from google+ (press Ctrl V)
      5. Add the code, then preview your blog to make sure it looks good.
      6. Save your changes, and you’re all set!

  5. Thanks for the info! I just created a page! I second Desiree’s question above! Please share.

  6. I’m still learning it all, but created my page:

Off to add everyone else’s to a circle!

Thanks so much for this! It gave me the push I needed to finally sign up for Google+. Looking forward to learning more because I have no idea how to use it yet. 🙂

Is there a way to change my long page link above to something like “” like FB has?
